JENKINS FAMILY††† ( Some of whom later went to Hopleys Green Almeley Herefordshire)

††††† The Jenkins family who farmed at Hopleys Green, Almeley, Herefordshire appear to have descended from William and Elizabeth Jenkins. They, according to census data, were born in Llanfiangel GG Cardiganshire. (Llanfiangel GG probably stands for Llanfiangel Geneur Glyn).

††††† In 1841 they were living at Rhyd y eir Radnorshire with five children .

By 1851 the family had moved to the Cwm at Llanyre Radnorshire. The census data shows that three children were born at Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, so the family must have lived there at least from about 1824-1829. Daughter Anne was not with the family, she was probably working somewhere or had married by then.

††††† By 1861, son Richard had taken over farming at The Cwm. Also at The Cwm were two boarders. The William Jenkins, widower, born Llanfiangel Cardiganshire was very probably Richard's father. The other boarder, Sarah Jenkins also born at Llanfiangel was probably a relative and could even have been an older sister.

††††† By 1861, Richard's older brother Evan was farming at The Swydd, Llandegley, Radnorshire and had married and had 3 children. As both of his sons have Lloyd as their second name it is likely that his wife Mary's maiden name was Lloyd. Their first son Evan was born at Llanfiangel Rhydithon, as was Mary herself. It is likely that he was born at Mary's home, although Evan and Mary could have been living in Llanfiangel Rhydithon at the time.

††††† At some time before 1881, Evan moved to Hopleys Green Almeley. In 1881 he was living there with his wife and five children. Perhaps one of his sons was the father of Tom Jenkins, who was the father of Rod Jenkins.

††††† Nothing is known of the whereabouts of Evan's brother William after 1851 when he was living at The Cwm until 1881 when he was living at Hollow Farm, Dinedor, Herefordshire. By this time he had married and had 4 children, the three eldest having been born in Almeley. The eldest child was only 5 in 1881 and William's wife only 25 years old so he seems to have married late in life unless this was his second marriage.

A search in the 1901 census site gave---

William Jenkins 36 Born Radnorshire Llangesley, farmer in Almeley Parish

††††† He is surely Evan's son William at Hopleys Green in 1881 and may be the Mr W Jenkins mentioned in the advertisement on your website.

††††† The 1901 search also found Evanís other son Edward aged 41 born Llandegley, farmer, in Kingsland Parish.

††††† The 1901 census search site gives other Jenkins' in Almeley and Lyonshall parishes including a Thomas Jenkins 60 Born Hereford, coachman domestic living in Lyonshall parish.
